Twiners, stem slender, herbaceous, mostly hirsute with long erect to suberect yellowish or hyaline trichomes. Leaves alternate, petiolate, petiole +/- 5 cm (-20 cm) long, hirsute; palmately compound, leaflets 5, 5-8.5 cm x 2.2-3.5 cm (-11 cm x 5.5 cm), middle leaflet largest, elliptic, entire, acuminate to acute apically and basally, upper surface scantily hirsute, on lower surface hairs more prominent on veins and margin. Inflorescence axillary solitary or a few-flowered cyme; peduncles 2-3.3 cm long, hirsute. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous, hypogynous, 2-3 cm long and ca. 3 cm across, white; pedicels ca. 1.7-2.2 cm long, hirsute; bracts ca. 5 mm long, linear, hirsute, caducous. Sepals 5, oblong, often convex, subequal, 1.2-1.7 cm x 4-7 mm, acute, hirsute (three sepals more densely), with erect yellowish trichomes, persistent enlarged in fruit. Corolla white, glabrous, 2-3 cm long, 3 cm across, campanulate; tube ca. 2 cm long; limb +/- 5-angled or shallowly-lobed, lobe shortly mucronate or not, reflexed. Stamens 5, included, inserted at base of corolla tube; filaments unequal 6-12 mm long, dilated basally, filiform distally, pubescent at base; anthers spirally twisted. Disc ring-like. Carpels 2, syncarpous, pistil included; ovary superior, glabrous, 4-locular, each loculus with one ovule, style 1, filiform, ca. 1 cm long; stigma 2-globular. Fruit capsular, ovoid or subglobose, 1-2 cm in diameter, subtended and surrounded by persistent calyx, dehiscence by 4 valves or irregularly. Seeds 4, brown, glabrous.
